DRT
Diplôme de Recherche Technologique

The DRT (Diplôme de Recherche Technologique, or technological research diploma) is a national third cycle diploma granted after a period of training in technological research in the industrial or commercial sector. The degree of DRT marks the completion of eighteen months of research aimed at solving a problem relating to the use of technology in industrial or commercial enterprises. This research takes place in close cooperation with a company concerned by the results. The actual work is done in a public or private laboratory or research facility under the supervision of two advisors. One of these advisors is an instructor-researcher with previous experience directing research, the other is a professional researcher in the laboratory concerned. Once the research has been completed, the student writes a report of the results which is defended in front of an examination committee.

Both IUP graduates and engineering students in their last year of study are eligible for the DRT. For IUP graduates, the research work is preceded by six months of research training for a total duration of at least 300 class hours. This training includes an introduction to intellectual property laws and instruction in how to lead projects.
