The Aerospace MBA is a one-year full time or two year
part time programme with 5 distinct stages
Pedagogical Philosophy
* To broaden knowledge, rather than to deepen it.
* To enhance managerial skills (through the use of case studies, activities,
and projects).
* To emphasise the international management aspects.
* To develop a flexible and creative learning process (in terms of time, content,
and delivery modes).The Groupe ESC Toulouse Aerospace MBA programme:
* is Market driven,
* has Companies directly involved in education and training,
* has a Curriculum that is evolutionary and continuously adapted to practical
business as well as to academic concerns.
Full time
The Aerospace MBA is a full time 12-month (October to September) program. The
different stages are scheduled as follows : the core modules are delivered between
October and January, the process workshops and the electives are delivered between
February and May, and the internship and professional thesis take place between
June and September.* Half time
Due to heavy workload, some aerospace companies find it difficult to release
their managers for a full-time 12-month course. Allowance is therefore provided
for participants who may wish to pursue the program in two years. This will
enable them to be absent from their workplace for only a short period of four
months during each of the two years : the core modules will be taken between
October and January of the first year while the process worshops and the electives
will be taken between February and May of the second year. Internship is done
in participant's company between June and September of the second year ; the
participant will therefore be present at work.
Part time
Extremely busy mangers may wish to pursue the program in two years, on a completely
part-time basis, They are required to be physically present in class for only
12 weeks, that is, one week of 36 hours every two months. In this case studies
will be supervised at distance, through the internet. Internship is done in
participant's company, on a project decided in common agreement with the company.
This option runs from October to September of each of the two years.The General
Structure of the Aerospace MBA
The Aerospace MBA programme is focused on processes with a strong strategic
orientation. It deliberately adopts inter- and trans-disciplinary views for
preparing the participant to face the challenge of the complex and continuously
changing business world of tomorrow with specific reference to the Aerospace
environment.
After a 3-day team building and induction seminar, the curriculum starts by
providing participants with a broad coverage of the main fundamental strategic
and functional areas in management (taught mainly by the permanent faculty of
Toulouse Business School), namely:
* Strategy and Core Business
* Finance and Accounting
* Operations Management and Information Systems
* Human Resources Management
* Marketing and SalesThen, the programme adopts a complete process approach
that covers the key management topics that cut across different functions in
the aerospace sector. These process workshops, handled by highly qualified professionals
from the Aerospace industry and services, are:
* Managing Alliances and Partnerships
* Managing Corporate Change
* Managing International Projects
* Managing Risk
* Managing Quality
* Knowledge Management
* Supply Chain Management
* Business Process Design
* Launching a Programme
* The Legal Aerospace EnvironmentThe marriage of these two approaches (functional
and process) forms a matrix structure that corresponds to the typical organisational
structure that is common in the Aerospace sector.
Beyond the mere acquisition of knowledge and technical skills the curriculum
is designed to put theory into practice by focusing on the personal development
of participants through such competencies as decision making, team work, leadership
skills, entrepreneurial potential, negotiation skills, communication and presentation
skills.
The fourth stage of the program is a series of six electives out of which participants
will be required to choose four; they can sit in for the six if they wish. The
aim of these electives is to further broaden participants' knowledge, such that
they will be able to integrate into their decision-making processes, management
problems encountered in specific aerospace sub-sectors. These electives are:
* Airline Management
* Managing Aerospace Subcontractors
* Managing Maintenance in Aerospace
* Managing Space and Telecommunications
* Managing Airport Operations
* Defence procurementFinally, the programme ends with a full time 4-month internship
in a recognised firm where the knowledge acquired during the first stages can
be put into practice. Alternatively, these four months could be spent to carryout
a research work on a topic related to the issues treated during stages two,
three and four.
It follows that the annual curriculum progresses in five stages outlined below:
STAGE I: TEAM BUILDING
Creating a team spirit and common culture
STAGE II: CORE MANAGEMENT MODULES
Foundation Management Courses
STAGE III: PROCESS WORKSHOPS
Operational Aerospace Management
STAGE IV: ELECTIVES
Operations and Management in Aerospace Sub-sectors.
STAGE V: PROJECT
Perfecting aerospace professional skills.
Practical in-company project supervised by a professional and an academic.
Or a professional thesis.
During stages two, three, and four, company visits, seminars and conferences
are organised. The guest speakers are VIPs from the European Aerospace industry.
Open to aerospace middle and top management staff, these conferences create
a forum for the MBA participants to meet and exchange views with professionals
from the industry. This is one of the opportunities offered to participants,
to enable them to make professional contacts and to create a business network.
To be enrolled in an international MBA programme means a substantial amount
of self-learning and personal investment. Furthermore, it is particularly the
people skills that enhance future management ability and career achievements.
The content of the programme considers academic and practical business needs,
to provide an exciting and well-balanced learning experience.
