Industrial placement in Germany

Fachhochschule Karlsruhe (University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe)

First internship (basic technician internship) in the 3rd semester

- 2 theory blocks

- 5 days of practical work in industry

Second internship (specialized technician internship) in the 6th semester

- 2 theory blocks

- 95 days of practical work in industry

Responsible for placements (department)

-          Approves the working contract

-          Validates the internship

Student:

-          Has to find the company for the internship

-          Makes the workink contract with the company (trainee contract)

-          Has to respect the practical rules established by the university

-          Delivers a technical report

-          Makes an oral presentation

Company:

-          Works out the programme

-          Pays the student (500-1500 DM per month)

-          Makes an appreciation of student`s work

Attitude of companies

-          Very positive for the second internship

-          Accept the first internship

-          Against time reduction

University:

-          Visits the company

-          Keeps good contacts to company responsables

Particular problems and evolutions

-          “Diplom-Ingenieur” studies are well accepted

-          Recognition of the Bachelor and Master programms is not clear

-          Industrial placement abroad is very attractive but time consuming

-          Foreign student need more help

-          Video job interviews are are, via internet, possible
